WG1 leaders Dr Irem Deniz Can and Dr Zrinka Ljubesic invited WG1 members to the 2 days workshop on Building the inquiry/repository of biotechnologically-relevant organisms.
During the 1st day of the meeting Action Chair Dr Ana Rotter presented the importance of building Ocean4Biotech biorepositories. Her presentation was followed by presentations of WG1 members on their own experiences about building various databases and biorepositories.
Dr Maggie Reddy introduces examples of biorepositories around the world, differing terminology but common goals.
Dr Olivier Thomas spoke about the Irish Biomaterial Repository and data management systems, while Dr Susana Gaudencio from Portugal presented microbial repositories.
The first day of the meeting was closed with fruitful discussion about the structure and next steps needed to be taken in order to build Ocean4Biotech database.
The second day of the meeting was dedicated to the group work, which was focused on brainstorming about the Ocean4Biotech database: how it should look, what should be included, what function it will have and many other related questions.
