Ocean4Biotech (O4B) members participated in XVIII International Symposium on Marine Natural Products (MaNaPro), showcasing their research on marine natural products through oral presentations, a plenary lecture, and poster contributions. Their participation highlighted the diversity of research within the field, spanning bioactivity, drug discovery, chemical biology, biotechnology, and the isolation and structural elucidation of marine natural products.
Plenary lecture
Efstathia Ioannou delivered a plenary lecture in the session “Isolation and Structure Elucidation of Marine Natural Products,” addressing a key area of marine natural products research.
Oral presentations
Mercedes Cueto delivered an oral presentation in the session “Bioactivity, Drug Discovery and Translational Marine Natural Products,” highlighting research in this area.
Ana Rotter presented her work in the session “Marine Natural Products: Chemical Biology and Biotechnology,” contributing to scientific discussions on the potential of marine natural products and their biotechnological applications.
Poster presentations
Ocean4Biotech members also presented the following research posters:
- Ana R. Díaz Marrero — “Diterpenes from a Micromonospora Strain Isolated at the Tagoro Submarine Volcano.”
- Efstathia Ioannou — “Diterpenes with Anti-inflammatory Activity from the Invasive Brown Alga Rugulopteryx okamurae.”
- Vassilios Roussis — “Acetogenins from the Red Algae Laurencia microcladia and Laurencia glandulifera from the Ionian Sea.”
The contributions of Ocean4Biotech members at MaNaPro 2026 demonstrate the breadth of ongoing research into marine natural products, from the discovery and characterization of bioactive compounds to the investigation of their potential applications.
Participation in scientific meetings such as MaNaPro provides valuable opportunities to disseminate research findings, exchange knowledge, and strengthen scientific connections within the marine biotechnology community.
