Target WG members: molecular biologists (working in the –omics field), chemists and biotechnologists from academic and industrial laboratories.
The aim of this WG is to list the pipeline that is necessary to produce enough biomass and its processing needed for development of prototypes, ingredients or precursors that can eventually be used in final products. We will consolidate processes for harvesting/cultivation of target species, extraction processes, yield optimisation, bioassay protocols, structure and impurity determination and waste management. Finally, this WG will establish an inventory of existing tools and infrastructure from action representatives that will serve to identify gaps for successful marine biotechnology process implementation and provide links to institutions that can be in future contacted for specific tasks. At least one STSM is planned for compiling the inventory of necessary tools and facilities that will serve as a reference point. At least one workshop is planned to introduce bioprocessing, compound selection, isolation optimization, structure and impurity determination and available bioassays.
